Ok, I have a mid 90's GM wiper motor. I noticed just now that the shaft does not rotate a full 360 degree's, extremely minimal almost like a push rod of a steam engine wheel. At the base of the shaft is a flat disc which is rotating the full 360's degrees which is what I need.. I am not a gear head by all means so did anyone every have this problem and do you have any suggestions?

The only thing I can think of is having a piece of metal rod welded to the flat disc which rotates 360 degrees. Sorry If this is not clear, but this was the best way I could explain it. See picture below, hopefully that helps clear it up.

Below the boot is the flat disc which rotates a full 360 degrees....the shaft that extends through the center is not rotating a full 360 as the base is...

MAYBE......Remove arm and boot.Clean surface REAL good.Make an arm with a hole big enough to go over shaft and JB WELD the arm to the rotating base.Only idea I got without seeing it.

Thanks skull...I confirmed it with a friend of mine...This set up from GM does not allow for a full rotation like other manufactures. Just an FYI for anyone who may purchase this same motor. Luckily I have a friend with a welder

You say this like it's a bad thing. Everyone is always looking for ways to convert rotary motion to something else. You don't say what prop you plan to use this for but I am assuming something where you need complete rotation. Why not find another motor for that and use this particular motor for a prop that can make use of this range of motion?

Sorry to affend you Demons, gosh, I don't proclaim myself an expert in prop making by anymeans...I did not know all wiper motors did not fully rotate 360 degrees and that is the point I was trying to make, not discourge the use of this motor. I think wiper motors are the best out there...BTW - This motor is for use on hangman....

No offense taken, I just always look for the easiest way to do something.

Do you want the dummy to go up and down? The easy way might be to just extend the arm long enough to get a decent range of motion and hang the noose from the end. If you want it to jerk around, how about putting the motor inside the clothing and attach a T-bar or cross piece to the end of the arm and then attach the ends of that to opposite sides of the shirt or pants. By using the motor's current range of motion you can concentrate on the rest of the prop rather than figuring out how to get it apart and then adapting the circular motion to the right movement.

Like I said, I'm always looking for an easier way to do things. Too often we take things apart, completely redo them, and then end up with something that wasn't really that far off from what we started with.

I will send pics later of what I have thus far. Basically I have the motor pushing the legs from the hip area outwards and forward with hinges at the kness to make if look like it is kicking. I don't get the full kicking motion as the rotation is limited with the motors current limited rotation. I basically need to increase the motors rotation. I plan to weld a z bracket on the actually base of the shaft (which rotates 360) - this will give me the full range of motion needed and I don't have to loose the motor either

Yeup. too late lol. I already purchased (worked for) 2 of these motors, and one other one, possibly an import motor. SAME thing. My friend is going to try and use my power supply from an old computer and wire it up tonight. I'll tell him what you found out.

    Thanks for the info.

GL on the project btw. My prop I'm going to use this one on, is a witch stirring a stick in a couldron. I could probly use the motor as is, even if it does go back adn forth.
