Hi Folks, I just bought one and then this price showed up! What a deal on a way to use 800-plus degrees to cut easily through any foam board.

    Enjoy!

I just tried it too and it is $12.99 even when I go to checkout.

I wonder if they will have it in the stores.

I wonder if they have it in their store as well. $12.99 is still a good price.

YMMV, but I was way less than impressed with this hot knife... I bought a couple 2 weeks ago or so and used one to cut out a gravestone that I'm working on.

The blade of the knife is thick and wide, like 4 mm by 20 mm, so getting it through foam thicker than about 1" is some serious work. I didn't find the guide all that useful, as it transfers heat and tries to melt the foam that you're cutting. Because I was having to push so hard to get the blade through the foam (on high heat, even), my hand wanted to slip down onto the blade itself.

For roughing out, $9.99 or $12.99 may be a fair price to pay for this hot knife, but don't expect to be able to get smooth straight cuts with it. Now, it could be useful for distressing surfaces to simulate weathering and such, as it made some interesting melty bits...
