Hey all, first time poster here.

We're doing a "The Birds"-themed room this year, so we need a lot of static birds to place on jungle gym props. So far, we have a few options:

    1. Dollar Store. A case of 60 for $60. These birds seem small, though. Almost unbelievable or laughable.

    2. Michaels and a coupon. We have a 50% coupon for Michaels birds, which are normally $10. So for $60, we can probably get around 12 larger birds.

Anybody have any other possibilities? We'd like to get a mass flock of them (ideally 20-30), but obviously cost is a limiting factor.

The crows from the Dollar Tree store look pretty good and they are a buck a piece. The size is realistic.

Are they the same birds that one can find at Spirit? Anybody have a picture of one with something to compare it to (like in the hand)?

For the amount of birds you're talking about, I'd do 75% the dollar tree birds (even small, they are still the size of a regular bird)

and then do 25% the larger birds available from Michaels.

The problem with Michaels birds is that they are on sale now. Once they are on sale, you can't use the coupons (there are some rare "20-25% off your total order" coupons out there, but they are hard to find!) Also, you can only buy 1 item at 50% off regular price if they go off sale for a few minutes... meaning that if you want to stock up, take a group of people or be prepared to go back again and again and again... they are sticklers in my area about the way their coupons are used.

On sale right now, they are $7 each. If you can find the elusive unicorn-like "% off total purchase" coupon, you might get them down to $6.50 each.

Hmmm. I saw birds for $10 each at mine. I figured 50% off makes it $5.

And yes, we were planning to go once a day or so and buying one at a time. It's on the way home, so that part wasn't a big deal.

I'm really nervous about the dollar tree birds. The guest will be walking directly under and next to these birds, so they need to seem intimidating. The Dollar Store sized birds don't seem to be such.

Makezine's Halloween issue a few years back showed a rather convincing The Birds-themed haunt. The family did a lot with silhouettes on the walls of the house. They were just construction paper. To make the sillhouettes pop more, they built up a lot of debris--crates, turned over lawn furniture, suitcases--to create the scene of a failed escape.

Otherwise, the Michaels birds are the best I've found.

Yes, we're definitely doing the silhouettes; that was a fantastic idea.

Thanks everybody for the input and suggestions.

Garden Ridge has a lot of crows, and they are pretty big.

Thanks, but I'm in Cali. No Garden Ridges here.
