I have these two fog machines that are hard wired. In other words I can't plug a timer adapter into them. Does anyone here know if I can replace the manual operation with a timer? It seems really simple to me but I think there are some safeguards in these if you mess with them. Any help would be appreciated.

Nah - shouldn't be any issue, as long as they've got a regular 'fog now' switch. Solder a wire from each side of the switch, and wire it over to something like this.

Fog Timer –

It only has a button to activate it. I would have to put something on it to hold the button down. Is it possible to buy the timer like one ones I see around, cut the cord and splice it in? The one on the right is the one that's hard wired and the one on the left is the one I bought at Target a few years ago and it plugs into the back of my newer fogger.

I don't really see any reason that you couldn't splice on a timer. Just be careful with that electricity!

Thanks Tom, I'm always super careful with electricity. I think I'm going to give it a shot. I opened up both comtrolers and the wiring was really simple. I think it will work too.

zacharybinx,
Be aware that the newer machines I've seen are running the full 120 volts AC through the remotes and switches these days. Older machines tended to run low voltage through the remotes and switches, but the quest for ever cheaper Chinese products has led to eliminating as many parts as possible. Because of this, the 120 is across all switches and remotes in a lot of these machines.
Thanks,
Affine
