I've been doing a lot of looking online for a lightweight bucky skull... I've been trying to rig one up with some servos, and I've got the jaw moving, but the skull I have is jsut WAY too heavy to use servo's to do neck motions. I've got some documents from halloween2go.com that show modding a bucky, and I've followed it pretty close but the servo just cant handle the weight of the head.
I bought: Amazon.com: Halloween Budget Life-Size Human Skull - Fourth Quality (Item # CS204): Industrial & Scientific
As you can see it's over 3lbs... there's got to be ones out there that are proprotional and look good/accurate, but arent 3+ pounds. The only way I see this working is using high torque servos and heavy duty push rods.
I've seen others on other sites, but no mention of weight.
Local halloween stores dont have much in stock yet.
Can anyone reccomend a website?

Do you have a link/pics of your tombstone so i can see what they look like?
Not sure how well I can mount servos in them since they are styrofoam, but, might be worth a look. They have moving jaws?

I am using the Lindburg model skull, it is accurate and lightweight. I am controlling it with servo's for head movement with no problem. There is a thread here called "my 3 axis skull in progress" that is full of information. Keith

Havent googled it yet - but you have any links for buying them? How expensive do they run?
The skull I have is crazy heavy and made from some plastic that quite frankly, horrifies me. The plastic of the skull is scarier than anything else I've seen this season... when I cut it/when it heats up with a drill bit... oh my god the stench that comes from it. Not burning plastic stench... rotting corpse stench. The plastic smells like what I'd imagine a newly hollowed out human skull would smell like. I wonder if they were going for accuraccy in size, detail, weight AND stench when they made this skull.
I just redid the mount for my skull to try and center the axis better to relieve pressure on the servo, but it still seems like the skull is just too darn heavy.
Oh, totally off topic... the servos I have say their torque is 42 ounce inches.
Can someone explain what exactly that means? Guy at the hobby shop told me it can move 42 ounces 1 inch, but that doesnt make any damn sense.

Here is a link to the skulls: http://www.hobbywarehouse.com/Produc...Dy!-1109941383
This one goes for about $20. I also ran into one on amazon for $13 can't find it now. Graveyardskulls.com has them for $15 but are not shipping anything till Nov.
As to the weight of the skull, some folks have used small helper springs to take the strain off the servos. LOL on the smell, the lindburgs just smell like burning plastic. My skull has 3 axis motion, Jaw and 2 axis eyes with RGB leds behind them. I decided to build it all myself and it has been a great, if not at times frustrating experience. And I have no clue as to the servo rating system. It's kind of like amplifier ratings, subject to the whim of the tester. Keithskating away on the thin ice of a new day

Aah thanks for the spring idea! I hadnt even thought of that... use a spring to help offset the weight, then the servo doesnt need to do so much work!
