I finished my first tombstone and also made a chain out of foam pipe insulation. I got the idea for the moss on the tombstone from Grimvisions and the chain from MonsterHalloweenList.info.

Tombstone: I cut out the lettering for that recessed look. I sprayed a basic black to "rough" up the foam, then applied various washes of brown, olivine green, and red to get the decayed and ancient look I was going for. Finally, I painted in some Glow-in-the-dark paint in the Vacancy word and crack. Incidentally, the crack wasn't supposed to look like a skeleton hand but i'm pleased that it worked out that way. The moss application worked like a dream and really added depth that was missing the first time that I thought it was done. Guess it shows that if in doubt, experiment!!

Next post will be the chain since I ran out of room here for the pictures.

Ok, here's the chain. I made it from 3/4"x6'x8 wall foam pipe insulation that I purchased from Lowe's. The one I got had the glue already applied by the manufacturer, so all I had to do was remove the protective plastic strip. I eyeballed the measurements though now that I finally found my yardstick I will be more precise in the future.

Cost of the pipe insulation (with tax): $2.04

6 feet of tube cut into 1/2" wide rings: a little under 11 feet.

Total construction time: a little over a half hour.

Look on my face when completed: Priceless!!
