Not sure if you are familiar with Ryan Gosling's band, Dead Man's Bones, but here is a live video of My Body's A Zombie For You.

Check out the back drop. I am debating doing something similar along the gutter line of my house. I appears to just be a silhouette cut out of a grave yard scene painted black with a board set behind it about 6 inches with Christmas lights poked through in a random star constellation pattern and then covered in white cheesecloth or another light diffusing material.
Anyone ever attempted anything similar?

That looks pretty cool! One word of caution for you, what you see there looks to be rather large, and those are defiantly not your standard LED lights. They are probably a ColorKinetics modular product that is quite bright, and equally expensive. It looks to be draped with a theater scrim, which is a very lightly woven fabric sort of like cheese cloth, but better.
For a home haunt or "lighter" look the LED lights and cheese cloth would look good. I'm just letting you know to not expect a look as brilliant as what is shown in the video.

I think a diffused cheaper version will actually be best. I am looking for something subtle as not to take away from the other insanity but don't like looking at my shingles.
