I have a set of speakers that has no 1/8 jack. just a place to plug in speaker wires. Is there a way I can hook my iPod up to them? Thanks

You could splice a dollar store headphone jack (cut it off a pair of headphones) to the speaker wire coming out of the speaker. I would suggest using an amplifier, or you will have to crank your I pod all the way up. Good Luck!

    you will need an amplifier.

As others have said, you will need an amplifier if you're using passive speakers. It's usually easier and cheaper to use active (110V powered) speakers with mp3 players.
