When I looked at these at Walmart they were over $5 a piece. I found them at Mennard's for around $2.50 a piece. Much cheaper. I know some of ya'll use them. Just thought I'd share.

Colored bulbs put out plenty of light. I use quite a few in my display. Last year I belive I had 16 of them. This year, I will have about 20-22.
You can make custom colors with glass paint from Michaels. I made a nice firery orange bulb last year and it worked great.
I mixed the colors, painted it on, and turned on the light, the heat cured the paint.

I have those recessed lights in my main room. They look sort of like floodlights. I really need to find something colored for these.
I found an online light bulb site the other day and thought I bookmarked it and now can't find it. ARRRRRRRR

I used blue one in the past where the smoke machine mist was going. It really made it look a lot more eerie. I don't know who to credit the idea of it too but it was someone on this forum. They put out quite a bit of light. I bought a few more of them and the ground light things so I could light the front of the graveyard with them this year.

Menards is my first stop for anything construction related. They have a much better selection, from name brands, for less than the knock off crap at walmart. They also have a much larger and more helpful staff and usually have more information about the products you're getting.
As to weather or not they are bright enough, all depends on which one you buy and what you are doing with it. Even in the outdoor flood lamp there are many different selections available, from wattage, beam size, and color.

There are two types available:
Regular incandescent floods (blue/green/red/amber) that are something like 150 watts. Get REALLY hot, but look great. All of them are good colors depending on the effect you're going for, but the warm tones will be brighter and the cool tones dimmer but more eerie.
LED floods: harder to find (at least in my area) in the store, more expensive in some cases, but sucks lots less energy to run, brightness is just slightly less than regular incandescents, and they don't get skin-burning HOT. I lucked across a bunch of reds and greens a few years back on clearance and snapped them all up.

Is it possible to use regular red light bulb in a motion activated sensor light? I'm building an MIB and want a red glow in the box.. I've been wondering if a regular red incandescent would work on those style of lights?
