I am wanting to make tombstones for Halloween this year and I can't find the "blue" or "pink" rigid foam board that is recommended by many people in this forum. I am in the San Diego, CA area and my concern is that this product is stocked at Home Depot / Lowes in colder climate areas . They do carry a styrofoam board (you know the type that the cups are made out of; that's not happening!) and a soft white foam board with a foil covering across the entire sheet. The concern with this product is that b/c it is a soft foam, there are a lot of creases and it will affect the final design.

Has anyone in the Southern CA area been able to find the "blue" or "pink" product?

BTW; the pink product is made by Owens Corning and HD can order it, but in bulk only.

I'm not an American but I've been to America and I've seen the hardware stores there your best bet would be to try Lowes

I was at Lowe's yesterday and they do carry one size, 1/2" thick. For some reason, they only carry 2' x 8' size. It would be ideal if they carried the thicker sizes.

I am about 120 miles east of you out in the desert and the local Lowe's carries it (but only the thinner sheets). The problem may be that San Diego has such a great climate all year long there isn't much call for the denser stuff.

A possible local solution: someone on here mentioned that a store employee told them that model railroaders use the pink and blue for sculpting mountains and things for their layouts. There are quite a few model railroad associations in San Diego. Check online and see if their websites have forums where you can post this same question. If not, you could shoot them an email and someone may know of a SD source.

lowes carries it but in your region it will be small. Call up a few drywall contracters and maybe they can hook you up.

    SavageEye,

Sorry for coming to this thread late, but go ahead and buy the beaded styrofoam at Home Depot. I use it for all my props. Here's a tombstone I made with carved lettering:

Don't let the large lettering size fool you. You can carve smaller letters in the beaded foam without any problem using a Dremel tool and the routing attachment.

I also used it to build my pirate ship...

    ...and my train:

Seriously, beaded styrofoam is completely underrated by the home haunting folks. Just buy some and you'll be amazed at how much you can do with it.

    Thanks,
    Affine

Holy crap you are my new hero! Those props are absolutely awesome! How much of those props are actually styrofoam? How did you get the stryofoam to bend without breaking for the cylinders on the train?

Is it true that the northern Home Depot/Lowe's stores sell 2"+ thicker foam board? Here in TX, I think the thickest is like 1" which unfortunately limits what you can do without gluing the styrofoam together first.
