I'm new to the forum, but confident that I've found a great site. I just received an old chandelier from a friend, and want to rig it up to shake for one of my new props for our annual bash. Any ideas on how to do this? I appreciate Any imput!!

The weasels use the same principle as a Bumble Ball - an internal offset weight (the motor and batteries) that spins around a central shaft. Bumbles are damn near impossible to hack for shaking on demand - the way the motor is mounted only works with an internal switch. Any incoming wiring gets wrapped around the shaft.
Look for a good-sized motor with an attached weight. I have a couple at work that I can get the numbers from on Tues. They came from a surplus house and were really cheap.I...have many names...

I have seen these Haunted Hedges at Big Lots the last few years. Have always wanted to pick a couple up on clearance, but never seem to get sorund to it. Wonder if you might be able to make it work for your application ? If you are lucky, you might even be able to incorporate the existing sound activation... ???

That's what I was going to say. I just tried one of those Haunted Hedge things at Big Lots and they do shake quite a bit for as small as they are.

Use the haunted hedges-$12(I think) at Big Lots right now. Will just have to cut the speaker wire or the chandelier will be very loud with monster type noise and the lighted eyes-could remove or incorporate it inot the design.
These shake enough for people to hack into Monster in a box props.

I have one of the shaking Chandeliers available the past few years.
It basically has a motor mounted horizontally with an arm that rotates. On the end of the arm is a small counter weight that makes it shakes as the motor rotates.
This technique is used in a few other props available for purchased.

could do it with a wiper motor and rig it to bump the chandelier chain with each rotation

I haven't bought any but aren't wiper motors pretty expensive? I'd try the $12 haunted hedge first. I bought a few in the past from Big Lots and found a few at a Goodwill for even less. I also have the noisy haunted chandelier prop that I'd like to remove the motor from and thought of seeing whether I could rig the haunted hedge (minus the sound and lights) somewhere a bit more remote from the chandelier and run some cables to it that would shake the chandelier like it would shake the hedge. Haven't had the chance to give it a try yet but seemed like it might work.
The motor on the chandelier prop was driving me absolutely nuts after a while. You'd need a lot of ambience sound effects to drown it out.

I once used a small battery operated hanging ghost which had a chanting ghost sound to create a shaking chains sound effects in past years. It worked great with batteries, but now I'm replacing it with a hacked "Haunted Hedge" shaker as others speak of. I'm using a 6v dc power supply pack so NO MORE Batteries!!! I hate that the hanging ghost would only last 1.5-2 hours max and then I had to change batteries or leave it without animation.. See videos below of the shaker in action:
