So I am ready to do my tombstones. I am using 1 1/2 inch pink foam board as usual. Sandwiching some PVC pipe for debar to support them. So it will end up being 3 inches. My question is what do you use for filling in the edges where it isn't even. I was going to try sparkle because I have some in the house. I saw Terra uses wood filler. Has any one tried the sparkle? Do you think it would work. I am just wondering if it would adhere and if it would hold up to the outside weather.

I would think so. As long as you are painting over it with Drylok...you should be good. I plaster on mm'd items all the time and after Drylok...no sweat. I also use caulk for big holes or seams.
For example, this got a big 'ole squirt of caulk:

What is this drylok I keep hearing about? Where can I get it? And how much do I buy? And more importantly how much does it cost?

It's special masonry (cement) paint. Not only does it waterproof stuff, it's really thick, has sand (silica) in it and if you are lucky...already tinted gray (perfect stone color). I think it's about $22 a gallon at Lowe's/Home Depot: http://www.ugl.com/drylokMasonry/mas...ofer/latex.php

I was hoping you would hop on this thread Terra. I am using your methods for my tombstones. I will have to stop and get some on way home from work. Will they tint it for me if it is not tinted already?

Not Terra, but I can answer that one. Yes, Lowes tinted mine with no questions. I've heard some people say that they were told it can't be tinted, just push a bit if the question comes up. *LOL* It even says in the little brochure my Lowes had that it is tintable.

This product is definitely tintable. It is a cementicious paint. That basically means it is a " standard" exterior paint with a generous helping of cement and sand added in. The sand is a filler while the cement is in to help harden to a non porous waterproof finish. Since it is a paint product it can accept most or all universal tints. The problem is that it will not accept them to the degree of a normal paint base. The short of it is don't expect deep colors. You should expect that you will probably have to overecoat with an exterior grade paint. If you are happy with the final color of the Dri-Loc then so much the better!

Important note. Be sure to get the LATEX version. The oil-based version eats foam...

Thanks to all. And the latex advice was very important. I have the stones cut out and really want to get them done over the weekend. I will post pics later thanks.
