I don't think a plane crashing into something has anything to do with Halloween.
Just my opinion.
Also, I used to have a hangman's gallo. Too many people got upset, so I took it out in the past few years.

I don’t think there is a right or a wrong on the subject. Its just an opinion. People have the right to dislike types of movies and not go see them. Just like the right of turning the channel on your own TV.
As a Halloween storeowner and a Pro Haunted Attraction owner I can tell you usually Hollywood dictates what will be popular for Halloween. Just like Rudolph and Frosty has become notorious figures of Christmas so has Freddy and Jason to Halloween. What do they “really’ have to do with Halloween?
Purist or not we deal in entertainment through fear. We play off of fear. There are 6 major fears that the rest play off of and most deal with human tragedy in some form. (Hence my Haunts new name 6Fears
Ones interpretation and communication of Halloween might be not to another’s taste but that doesn’t mean it’s not the next big Halloween rage. I wish my kids loved witches and the stuff that I loved but they don’t scare them. Even though that’s what scared me as a kid. Witches to me were scary and in the old days of witch trials many people actually died because of that fear. Most of what we do is scare with the threat of human tragedy.
Everything is relative and Halloween is a living Holiday, meaning its spirit changes from generation to generation.
I am actually moving my haunt to a different state and we have been discussing doing a plane scene for the 2011 season because it is scary. I have to scare and entertain or I go out of business. I have to sale what is popular regardless of what I prefer or what I tie to a holiday that is continually changing.
I did my Haunt in a Gambling Casino last year and we had Chainsaw Elvis (That’s Vegas Baby). It was a scene that created a lot of wet pants and hyperventilation’s. Not much to do with Halloween but it is now for those kids that went through it and that experience is now embedded in their youth and I will guarantee you it will be a part of what they perceive or remember as Halloween.
Back to what this thread is about.......
Might be bad taste for some but a plane crash scene with the dead celebrities, Buddy Holly etc…… that would be scary....or snakes on a plane HAHHAHA!
You guys are really not going to like my theme this year...6 Fears at Slaughter High. I actually bought a school Bus and have a second custom bus thats going to be crashing into the side of the building.

Most of our Halloween themes revolve around death. None of us would bat an eye, let alone get offended by the use of serial killers, murdering pirates, or their mutilated victims in our haunts. I don't see what is so sacred about a plane crash - death is death.

welll this would not go over good in my town/city. since 2 years ago a commerial airline flight crashed and every person died aboard and 1 person in the house. pretty sure 51 people died. this is just a touchy theme if you were to do it.

Just my opinions!
I do agree that Halloween can be any theme when it comes to professional haunts.
Netherworld in Atlanta has two haunts. One is more traditional with zombies and skeletons and stuff. The other is usually something more radical like a chemical spill. While this is great for professional haunts where the extreme scare factor is important, I don't think people would understand it if a residential home had chemical barrels and sludge spread all over the front yard. Most people would wonder, what the heck? Same thing with a crashed plane. That would be great in a professional haunt, but sitting in someone's front yard.
Again, just my opinion!

Yeah, but then again cemeteries have no place in most people's front yards either!

Everyone is going to be offended by *something*.
Like someone said, death is death...whether it's by serial killer, zombie or plane. I come from a family of pilots and would like to get my own license someday, and have known someone who died in a stunt plane crash, but this still doesn't bother me to the extent of "ohmagawd no way"
I have a suicide in my family, pretty close up...and still I like seeing hangman's nooses.
However, if you gave it some humour, it might go down better. Like adding truckloads of plastic snakes. LOL SNAKES EVERYWHERE
Cardboad I think would be a good shell for the plane and parts, just seems like a lot of work. Also: lots of strobe lights.
Do I personally think a crash = Hallowe'en? No...but it certainly fits in to the popular gore/extreme horror theme that is found in many of the great pro attractions...stuff that doesn't automatically come to my mind when I think of our holiday, but appeals to many nonetheless.

The more I think about it, the mo like it, but like I said, it needs to tie in somehow to Halloween. A bunch of dead bodies doesn't make the holiday, a tsunami could provide a lot of bodies, but has nothing to do with Halloween. I think this idea has a lot of potential though, just needs a bit of creativity.

I guess people just sometimes mixed everything all together "horror" "Gore" "Halloween" "Tom Cruise" .
Being a huge Horror fan, I do keep "Halloween" theme seperate from "Horror" movies or scenarios. Would be very cool doing an Evil Dead haunt, but many would be confused by it.
Just crashes, no matter what vehicules, I do find it somewhat wrong at being it something we do see it everyday in our lives, and real people do really suffer. When based on a scary movie, legends and supernatural things, people can't relates, since it's based not on real events. Of course, I see a haunt, based on a plane crash, I'll go cool!, but then, my brain ask, what this has to do with Halloween??? But myself, I know I do my haunts for the tots first always in mind.

Here's a prank somebody pulled in Austin, Texas in Jan, 2009 (not for Halloween) but it's still sort of Halloween-related. People were torn about whether it was funny because by changing these road signs, it was possible some could have gotten hurt. Luckily, nobody did get hurt:
