I decided to finally get off my duff and start on some Halloween projects. This was a quick and easy build thanks to the great tutorial by scarefx.com. They did have it listed as a $25 coffin, which mine didn't turn out to be. I found a local fence place that sells sub-grade 6' cedar fence boards for 75c per board. When I was buying the boards, they told me that I couldn't pick through them; I had to just take what I got. I told them I wanted to pick through them to get the worst ones, not the best ones, and then they said that was fine, I could do that!

So for 15 boards including tax it ran me $12 and change. Some wood glue and staples for my brad nailer and it cost about $16 to build. I bought enough wood to build 3 of them.

I don't like how the top turned out with the different colored boards, so I'm going to use the top of that coffin as the bottom for a different coffin, and build a new top for that one with wood that is all the same color. Overall I'm happy with how it turned out though. Quick and cheap!

I wish everyone was as kind as creepycathy!

Nice work tekcor1. Your project turned out great! That's a good deal on the boards too.

I agree I like the top coloring, maybe a stain would help even it out?

Kittyvibe does make a good suggestion. Stain would even it out.

Since you used a cedar fence board, it's pretty easy to distress the wood with a rasp. Then stain it to add some dimension.

Maybe something similar to what I did on this one.
