If you're short on time, you can buy 4 packs (that's two pairs, not four pairs) of eyeballs at Michaels. They look pretty good and are the same size as ping pong balls.

When I have to make human-like eyes (rarer than you'd think), I use the Haunters Hangout tutorial. It's essentially a ball (ping pong or deodorant) that you paint red on the bottom and glue a paper print out of an eyeball on top. It turns out well. They have a downloadable sheet of iris patterns that look great.

Then again, when I do eyes, I normally wind up just painting them on, but I've done it for years with ceramic pieces; I'm used to it.

So, ping pong ball, red paint, glue, print out, done.
