Hey guys, firs time poster. I designed my first animated prop yesterday, this is how it stands now.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8K26_7-sB8"]YouTube- Early stages of rocking chair halloween goul[/ame]

Pretty self explanitory, $20 for chair, $15 for motor, $25 in misc bolts and metal and spring etc. Now i get dress him up.

I figured it wasn't bad for first attempt.

Good work! Please come back and post another video after he's all dressed up. For the heck of it, I think I would experiment with lowering the voltage to the wiper motor and slow things down some. I see you are using a battery charger for power, maybe it has a switch for 6volt output?

I was on the 6volt setting on the charger. I would have liked to slow it down but i have no idea how too. Its going to be a tied up skeleton sitting in the chair trying to get out. So the speed should go with that theme nicely. I'm going to mount a speaker under him with moaning grunting sounds playing

I found this link for DC motor controllers. Some controllers simply lower the voltage which will mean less torque. I built a controller from a kit which works well but then I found this one for pretty cheap and it's already assembled.

Awesome, thanks for the link. Any suggestions on building a timer into my fog machine? Mines one of those ones that you have to push and hold a button manually every few minutes to make it work...

You can buy fog timers that you can set to go off at regular intervals. There are tons available on eBay and Amazon. Ours look like this one.

Your existing timer has a 3 prong male plug that connects to the fog machine? If so, these timers will replace that controller.

some wiper motors have a high speed contact and a low speed contact, you might try to search on the brand you have. also as mentioned go with a lower voltage and try a lower amp setting if your charger has one 6 volts 2 amps should slow it down a bit. I don't think you need a lot of torque for your application.
