ok hi all probably stupid question and easy fix..

I made the legs and used a wiper motor and and old cpu PS. no issues... I hook the motor to the legs and 2 things happen... the nut holding the drive are to the motor tightens up and stops spinning.. I think I fixed that but could use some ideas. So then I did a dry run with pants and sneakers and I made a side to keep the pants out the mechanics of it and as soon as I did the piece of stock I use from the motor to the legs bent in half and binds up??? Any help??

    Thanks,

    Andy

Pics would help - not certain I understand what's happening. Can you add wood perpendicular to the mechanism near the "foot" and staple the pants to the wood - with enough give in the pants that they will still bend?

Sounds like the pivot joint nuts are tightening up and causing the mechanism to lock. For the motor crank, I drill out the ball joint connector and create a 1/4" thru-hole. I then use a 1/4" bolt with a nut and lock washer to hold the bolt to the crank. Place a flat washer on the bolt and place the aluminum linkage bar on the bolt. Put another flat washer on the outside of the bar and use a nylon jam nut to hold the bar on the bolt. Tighten the jam nut until you have just enough clearance to allow the bar to move freely without binding. The jam nuts will stay wherever you put them; I've never had one loosen or tighten up. You can do the same at the other pivoting joints - a bolt through the holes in the aluminum flat stock, with flat washers between any sliding surfaces and a jam nut on the bolt. For smoother movement, use nylon washers.
    I...have many names...
