After seeing fravak's exellent post on making styrofoam pistols What to do with scrap foam? Make more props!
I got inspired to try it myself. No way I could do that kind of detail work with foam so I decided to go with metal and wood. Here's the result. Best part of it all was it was made from things I already had on hand--all free! The firing mechanisms aren't really accurate, but at a glance in the dark it will do just fine.
I used 1/2 inch plywood cut into a basic pistol shape, an aluminum tube from a broken chair (cut in half to look like it was fit into the wood), and spare pieces of brass and metal I had in a junk pile in the garage. Stain, a little paint, and there you go.

Maybe not so accurate but looks great! Most wouldn't know the difference.
