Last year I decided I wanted to build a dragon about a day before Halloween so it is something I've actually been working on since the middle of spring, on and well mostly off. The base is all recycled cardboard that is cut, bent, and hot glued together. Once I have it together I'll papier mache, clay, and paint it. I can honestly say I'm not sure I would do the cardboard route again as it is incredibly time consuming, and takes a ton of hot glue.

Daryl is a name my roommate picked btw. He is about 4 feet tall and 5 feet long.

The first two pictures are from the start of the day.

And these are from just a little bit ago. There's certainly plenty of work left to do!

That's looking pretty cool but like you said, there has to be an easier way. I can only imagine all the time you put into it so far.

It is going to be covered in papier mache and papier clay.

I am trying to decide if I want to paint it to look like a stone statue or like an actual character. The guts are cut out so I could put a fog machine (well the original idea was propane but propane, fire and cardboard just don't feel like a good plan) in it. With that in mind I'm leaning towards painting it to look "real".

evildrbug, not sure, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure his reference came from a movie. I laughed when I googled it last week and found it was a real person. We've been calling it that for so long now there's no changing it.

Well I think he's ready to start being papiered! I'll get pictures tomorrow but I seem to have left my camera at work today.

I'm getting nervous as I remember having a slight issue with cardboard softening too much when I papiered it last year. I'm sort of considering coating it with sealer first but I also need something for the papier to stick to. I also thought about putting dry wall joint compound in the first layer of papier and taking my time only doing small sections at a time. Any thoughts?
