I really want to add an FCG to my haunt this year, but I have no mechanical know-how. I was hoping to find one of those floating Donna the Dead heads that were everywhere a couple of years ago and fix it up myself, but they are nowhere to be found! Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe a cheap prop that can be corpsed up a bit to look a little better?

i made one last year. it was so much easier than i thought it would be, and cheap, too!
we used a rotisserie motor to power her ($20 at WalMart, hubby rigged the camshaft from scrap material)
cup hooks to run the lines through (leftover from another project)
2 packs of cheesecloth (like maybe $6 each in the paint department at WalMart)
1 pack RIT whitener and brightener, $5 maybe?)
a $6 styrofoam head from a beauty supply house
2-3 wire hangers, (free in the closet)
1/2 bottle tacky glue, (left over, can't remember $)
some dabs of acrylic paint and a blast of clear spray (leftovers)
    scrap foam for hands
a blacklight. we used a 1 foot one and it worked ok.

basically for less than $40 bucks i made my FCG! hopefully you have lots of craft leftovers lying around, it really helps save money!
    a few pics:

soak the cloth really well in the RIT! it's the only way to get the desired effect.
i just took from various online how-to's to make mine more original... i don't like to have something that everyone else has!

Yeah I made mine about 10 years ago with a $5 rotisserie motor from the thrift store. A few srew in eyelets and a couple of 1X2s. It's been working great every Halloween since I made it.

So, how about a quick and easy explanation from those of you who've gone the cheaper route than the special motor and angle iron version that many use?

Here is a link to Ron Tye's version of the FCG. I attached my crank a little differently but the general idea is all the same.

There are other holidays besides Halloween? When did they start that?
