I'm going to be painting my mausoleum soon and i need to know if I need to use a sealant on the paint. I will be using i believe a latex based paint and/or monster mud.

A Little tip-- to give your foam a nice stone look/texture. Either use DRY-LOC or add sand to your latex paint. It does wonders when trying to create a hard/stone look.

Wouldn't it have to be water based latex? Wouldn't oil based latex eat into the foam?

I use a cement wash to color our tombstones. A slurry mixture of cement, water and sand, applied using a cheap through-away brush. The finish looks like old granite, very heavy looking. My daughter even tosses sparkles on the wet finish to give a weird shiny effect when a light hits the stone. Effective, durable, fast and cheap, give that a try.

I've never heard/seen of an "oil based latex paint". I don't see how they could mix. Wouldn't the oil eat up the latex?

Yep, I think you're right. It's me again getting mixed up with my paints & what we call them over here in the UK and what you call them in the US!

What I suppose I meant was not to use oil based paint on them, use latex. But then I think everybody knows that.

Think I'll go for a lie down - always seems to help.......................................
