I needed to make some mini skull duplicates to use for hearse details, so I built a vacuum former. I got the information from this page:http://alstevens.com/ventriloquism/vacuum.html

Theres also a product called Wonderflex that can be used to make props and costumes with. Heres some examples- http://www.google.com/images?q=wonde...w=1102&bih=843
Just an alternative in case vacuumforming seems too daunting. One day I wish to build one to have different scales, like for small to large size pieces. Someone I know said her large hommade one cost a fortune, :/ but one day I hope to have one.

Evil Bob, your skull came out really great. Both the detail and the paint job.
kittyvibe, that wonderflex looks quite impressive, as does the cost. But I suppose in the long run it is cheaper than buying the original finished props in a store. It looks really easy to use, and I like the fact that it can be reheated and reshaped if you mess up or change your mind. I also like the variety of ways in which you can heat it. I may have to try it. Thanks for the link.

Thanks! This was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It really works like magic.

Great job Evil Bob! This reminds me of my Mattel Vacuform toy from the late 1960s. Good fun. No fear of burning off your fingerprints back then

Is that one of those candy holder skulls? I think we have a few of those too. I also have an evil looking pumpkin that I've been planning on copying in a larger scale. I'd like to make a wall hanging out of it with some faux fire in the mouth.
Here's some additional vacuform stuff that I found a few years back. The table is larger scale to make some cool Stormtrooper costumes. Same concept though.

It really was easy. The parts cost only $8, not including the shop vac and the toaster oven. I plan to use it for eyelids for my pirate bandmembers.
