Hi all,
I have a ac 120/60hz 3.7w motor I want to hook up to a rocking chair. I put a pic of it in my 2010props album of it. I show the moving arm and the T bar with stopping bars attached to the motor. The moving arm goes back and forth but if I remove the T bar and stopping bars the motor will spin around. I want to hook this to a rocking chair to get it to rock on its own but can`t figure out how to do it. Can someone please help me with this. Or would it be better to hook it to the body of the static prop i`m putting in the chair?
Thanks for any advice anyone can give

I would think you could use the T-bar to mount the motor along the side of the seat of the chair. Then attach string or bailing wire to the arm and to an eyelet screwed into the ground, or a board attached to your porch, or the porch itself. As long as the motor isn't so strong as to pull the chair back and forth, it should rock. You should be able to vary the motion by attaching to different areas along the side of the chair and adding or removing slack from the string. I would start by mounting it near the front on the side and see what it does.
Undead and loving it!

You might want to look at this thread if you want a character rocking the chair.

I followed this build last year, took about an hour and looked great in action.Boo!

I have seen that rocking chair prop before . Wish I could make it but the motor I have isn`t that strong and I have figured out a way to get it to rock. I attached the motor to the side of the chair and ran a line to the floor behind the chair. The motor is strong enough to pull the rocker a little so it looks like granny is rocking real slow. It`s good enough for now but I might try moving the motor around to see if I get better results with the rocking motion. Thanks for all the advice and help.
