I wanted to add some rigging to the pirate ship haunt this year, so I made this set of deadeyes. I worked out the process on this set, so when I make a second set I'll take some pictures of it in-progress for a tutorial.
If you're interested in doing this, it was a very easy project. 1/2" foam, cut into disks and glued together then scored to look like wood and painted (there are many threads on this forum with instructions on how to get this effect) and a couple of different sizes of rope is all you need. Here are a few pictures:
Here's one of the pictures I got off the interweb for guidance on how to lay it all out:
and you can get an idea of where these things will go with this picture of, you guessed it, the Pearl from POC:
The long boards on the sides of the ship above the gun ports are called channels, and you can barely make out the deadeyes attached to these. They connect to a set of ropes called shrouds that go from the channels to the masts.

they look to scale - although a bit white.
you know that the rope should look like it;s been tarred, right?
the only problem with the foam, is that if the lines are not stretched tight, its not rigging.
good job on the tackle. instead of having a rats nest of bitter enda atop the deadeyes, can you make a few thole pins oops belaying pins to wrap the excess in a figure8?

thanks for the nice comments. UR-dedd, I'm using a little black paint to mimic the tarred look, with a little green for contrast. Once I get everything situated it should have less slack in the line, but it is also going onto a shipwreck haunt so a little slack will be okay. Good idea for the belaying pins. thanks.
