Theme: torture chamber (garage haunt 4-6 scenes tight do to garage space)

Ok I thought of making a stockade. I think that would fit into my theme. But if I did and placed an actor in there, how do I make it scarry???
    • Do I just have him stuck in it?
    • Do I make it so he can chase others, IE get out of it?
    • Do I have it empty with an actor, threatening to place guests in it?
Need input if you tried this or might have seen it or like/dislike the idea.

I have an idea but it all depends on how crafty you are... its like a guillotine but instead of a blade it has spikes so that you can use an actor but the guests wont be expecting the head to come off.. its completely safe (in design) but it will require building skills and a tentativeness to details... ill send you the plans i have drawn up if youd like

If you decide to go with an actor, my advice would be don't have them locked in to it. The last thing you want is an actor locked in and defenseless, exposed to the general public.

    Hi,

As far as I know stocks wouldn't have that much wood over the part that puts the head and hands in. It is almost like a combo guillatine and stocks. I wouldn't make it that big unless you are dong the guillatine. Just a waste of wood.
I like the actor in it but, where it definitely looks locked but, they can get out. You can do a guy in the stocks with a small ballon with fake blood in it. Then when he tells them he "can't take it anymore", he bites down, and spews blood out and collapses. You just need a rag to wipe up with for the next big show and a bag next to the stocks for the stash of balloons.

yeah.. the design i had in mind will still be bloody but with a guillotine you would expect the actors head to fall off... with the spikes (which retract into the block and into the stocks and never touch the actor) it looks like a single spike is going through his neck and one in each wrist... to give the illusion of being locked in you just get one of these

and cut it so that it doesn't actually lock shut

ya those plans would be great!!!!
and yes the actor would not be locked in actually. He would look locked in though.
I can always turn down the gore later.
I almost made spike drop ceiling room but no time and not enough room.

I can build it no prob, I have made skill. I have a plasma cutter, mig welder and duct tape, I can build a space shuttle hahahahahaa

I could always weld that small locking part to the hinge making it look locked all the time but yet super safe and not locked

The spike illusion would go well with my SPG:

NOTE: These are not drawn to an accurate scale!

The spikes are approximately 2 ft long (i think just go with what looks right)) and 1/3 of the spike goes into the stocks the other 2/3 retracts into the block. this division of hiding the spikes reduces the size of the block thus making it look more real. the spikes are one inch in diameter...

sorry if these are confusing as it s enough for me but i am the one who thought it up so i know it better than the plans may reveal... if you have questions just post em here... or pm me...

but promise me this, if you build it post pictures detailing the build and a video of it working (i really wanted to build this this year but ill be starting my freshman year college and wont be home for Halloween)

znelson710 thanks for the drawings I like this idea.
What are the spikes made from? At least the center one would have to be foam as it WILL hit the actor if I am reading this correctly. One issue I may have is it would be a 2 actor prop.

This prop is Spill Your Guts illusion. I couldnt spend $4500 so I made one I have a how-to somewhere on this or one of the other forums, search my threads/posts user name is the same on all forums.
Here is a link to some of the build pics and a cheesy video: Spill Your Guts build pics

This is the original I modeled mine after:

what i forgot to mention was the steel plate the will wrap around the back of the actors neck to prevent the spikes from penetrating... i am not sure what to make the spikes from i guess you could just sharpen some wood dowels and paint them to look like old metal.. in the block the spikes need to somehow be able to stay in the block so that the dont fall out when the block is lifted up... unless you can figure out a way to make it move on its own it will be a 2 man prop unless you build a dummy with a hood on the head and each hand that thrashes around...
