I am not very crafty. I can come up with ideas, it is just making things that causes me problems. I have spent the past week gathering various dresses, shoes, masks and things to expand my witches for my annual party. I am also having my first WITCHY party so I decided to let the party theme surround witches also. It will be much easier to decorate that way.
I will still have my cemetery in the back and expand the small one in the front yard. I have lots of hanging ghouls inside that I will still use plus some of the other things.
I really want some signs to go with each room and especially a large one for the front to welcome guests. Since I am NOT artistic, what is the best way to make these?
I thought about computer generated ones since I can have them blown up to poster size at work. However, where do you come up with art that is not the cheesy clip art? Also can these be done in Word or Publiser and look okay?
I plan to have an assortment of crashed witches out front. I already have three and DH is going to make several other types and styles. I would love a sign that says:
Caution: Low Flying Witches
or
Hard Hat Area
That one would need to be weather resistant since it will be outside.
Also one for the front curb area that says:
Witch (or broomstick) parking only!
All others will be toad (or should it be toads?)
Large welcome sign for in courtyard area or above double doors:
Bewitched Boo Bash (for the party)
WITCHY (for women)
I just am not sure how to get the letters on wood or whatever to look right. Are stencils available in type fonts that look witchy or spooky?
Master bath
I am going to have a witches spa in my master bathroom and am still looking for a name for it. I will have witches in the big jetted tub.
Maybe a sign that says: "I'm melting..."
Others that I am thinking about:
Witches Welcome (for the hangdown from the foyer into main room)
Foyer Wall:
Home is where you hang your broom (or hat----there will be witch hats hanging and brooms and witch shoes below)
Inside dining area and screened porch table area:
Full Moon Cafe
Black Hat Cafe
Come Sit forpell a Spell (or some sort saying on it)
12 yr old nieces room:
Black Cat Academy
Witches in Training
Please Keep A Safe Distance (this for my 12 yr. old nieces room)
Kitchen:
Witches Simmering Pot
Beverage Area at end of kitchen:
Black Cauldron Brew House
Serving Bewitching Brews
Wet bar:
(this already has a wooden sign that says Poison Bar
Bath Room:
Bat Room (yes, I know it is cheesy, but it is filled with bats and spiders)
Extra Bedroom:
Broomstick Day Care
Serving Local Witches Since 1692
Master Bedroom:
Wicked Witch Way
Never question a witch...
It just might be the last thing you do.
Above my bed:
Witch with an attitude,
Deal with it!
So, all you wonderfully talented and creative people how do I go about this without having to spend a fortune buying stencils. What kind of materials would I use for signs and remember I am not a crafty type. (no freehand lettering from me....)

What I do is use MS Publisher, create a banner, I select OUTLINE mode so I dont' waste ink with huge solid black letters. I think Word does this too.
I then use spray glue or rubber cement and glue the banner to pink insulation board. Light, easy to work with and paint. I then take the dremel and follow the outline, no need to be real neat unless that is the look you are going for.
WAALAA instant yard signs.

ignore my spelling error, I even used spell check, incorrectly as you can see, arrghhhhh

hope this helps, and honest I can't paint or draw for my life those on the forums can back me up on that.

The whole kit at Home Depot $65 the import part or one I like the best is the depth gauge it's the black part on the far left hand side. This allows you to use the tool like a router, makes it easy to hold and sets the depth of your cuts.
you'll like it, I use it for tons of stuff not just halloween

I have 2 methods-
1st - I bought a projector at a craft shop that projects off a regular piece of paper so I'd print what I wanted on a standard piece of paper and then use the projector to blow it up to size and trace out the image with a magic marker....I've done this for everything from tombstones to the full size grandfather clock I made out of foam....
2nd - Same method but now I use a standard projector hooked to the laptop....The nice thing about this method is you don't waste ink/paper printing anything out...Simply throw the image up on whatever you want to trace it on.....The nice thing about this is you also have the projector to use at Halloween with projects like Hallowindow, etc.....There are plenty of creepy fonts to be had for free on the net....Just google free halloween fonts and copy them where all your other fonts are on your PC....They will show up in your program of choice then....ZR
