    Greetings!
To all you ghosts and ghouls of this wonderful forum

I've been lurking a bit for a month or so since I’ve been in my initial planning and building stages for Halloween this year .starting may seem late for many of you out there but I’m British, not many English are into Halloween so last year i set out to set a example for my street and it went well but this year I’m planning bigger and better, Being a huge Buffy fan naturally I’m opting for a vampire theme. i haven’t run into any problems yet apart from. well. My door

it may not seem a big problem for many but this will be where the trick or treaters will do the pivotal part of trick or treating. the door knock. my problem is its a white pvc plastic. as are the window frames. Not very vampiric
I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a cheap non permanent gel/spray/liquid that would give the appearance of stone. e.g liquid latex and cement mix? I’m not sure but I’m guessing it would peel off

Please help. not for me but for the countless little English kids that get as excited for Halloween as the rest of us but unfortunately don’t get to see any decorated houses (Appologies if this is in the wrong place. My account is old but I havent really posted before)

Could you possibly put up a faux door over it? made of foam insulation board? you could definitely cover that with drylok. maybe you could attach it with velcro...the adhesive would come off pvc easily with goo gone. I cannot guess what brands or materials you have over there. Also, you would have to adjust how the kids "knock" as foam board won't work well. I cool old bell on a rope would be fun.

I was thinking of doing something along the lines of that but unfortunately the style of door isn’t flat. if the foam board where to cover up all the ridges it would stick out quite far from the door, giving problems when opening and closing it. Plus foam board isn’t easy to come by where I live and seems quite expensive on the internet
I really appreciate the suggestion, thank you

Do an ebay search for "Halloween door cover" (I searched www.ebay. Not the ebay.uk). If you don't like any of those you could always cover the door in cling wrap (clear plastic wrap for the kitchen) and try painting over that.. Potentially VERY messy though.

    Good luck!

Find a trash door in a scrap yard or demolition. Make a temporary door out of scrap wood. Put hinges on the halloween door and all you have to do is swap it out for the special night. That, and store it all year. You can make a total mess out of your prop door.

Do you have to open and close the door? I worked outa "candy delivery system" for my "Magic Mirror" last year. The entire stone wall was made of foam (carved and painted). It fit in front of my storm door (glass/screen removed) and I left the regular door open on the inside. Due to the cold weather on Halloween '09, I had to install a duct tape flap to block the opening when not "delivering" candy.

Can you post a picture of your door. Sam-O-L? It might be easier us to help you. Would it be too difficult to put up paper mache? Make an outline of the door on poster boards, slap on some paper mache clay, let it dry, paint it and then secure it with tape/velcro.

how about a custom vinyl cover like the kind the put on cars and semi trailers? They probable have come down in price over the years and you can find them all over online now.

Up side is you can make it look the way you want and it's removable.
bad side is that it will cost more than making/painting it yourself.

You could also use a scene setter that is made of plastic and has a stone pattern and cover the door with that. Easy set up and easy take down. Or just a clear plastic tablecloth cut to size and paint it to look like stone. It will give it a transparent look to it.
