Like many of you out there who bought the Gemmy White-Haired Guy Spirit Ball last year from ROSS DRESS FOR LESS to basically canibalized the spirit ball for the talking head for a prop, I have been wondering what to do with my leftover half-frosted plastic globe. I decided to turn mine into a Monster Lab Power Source to be placed on a yet-to-be-built Power Tower that will ultimately "power" my monster lab experiments.

I bought one of those inert gas glass globe lights, Sphere Electra (the kind that sends arcing tenticles of light around the inside of the globe light, sometimes referred to as a plasma sphere), last year and decided this would be a great use for the power source effect. Here's a link to one that was on Amazon's site. I think one of those Luminglass lamps would also work despite the fact that it's a disk not a bulb in the event you can't find the sphere-shaped fixture. The effect viewing it straight on however would be similar.

Here's a pic of some Gemmy Spirit Balls (in case you don't know what I'm referring to) as well as a pic I managed to take with the Gemmy sphere over the lit plasma sphere. It's taken from more of a downward view unfortunately because my camera isn't low light and I was having trouble getting a pic showing the beautiful arcs.

Anyway if you too have a leftover Gemmy globe after working on your head prop, consider making one of these.

I'm not sure yet how I will make the tower base portion. Might construct one out of lumber and cover with foamboard that can be detailed with paint (thinking a tall concrete-looking form with cracks and moss) or might go the cylinder route and use a concrete tube form from Home Depot. In either case the base will allow an electrical cord to be hidden which will be needed to provide AC to the Sphere Electra light.

Looks cool! Way to cannibalize a prop and use it for what you need!

Maybe use some drainage tubing or larger PVC?
What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.
