Look into Christmas Tree Light Controllers. There are some pretty cheap ones that should fit the bill.

Depends how much you want to spend and if you are flexible with your task at hand. There are a lot of cool things you can do with lights. The more complex the effect, the more money you will spend.
Here is a basic light controller:

Not sure if it meets your exact needs, but it is a start. Also, if you have a big budget, start looking into Light-O-Rama or animatedlights. They are the big ones for lighting effects. But like I said, the more complex, the more $$.

Hmmmmmm... That's very interesting. I've only ever seen the controllers with a dedicated string of lights already attached. This is a commercially available version of what I've made from this:

which worked quite well for fading spots in the cemetery.
Interesting though as it says it's usable with their LED sets. I wonder if they've figured a way to fade them. Most LEDs are not dimmable."Look Honey, they have... uhm... 'Dead People' in the backyard!"
"Your body's dying. Pay no attention, it happens to all of us!"

I'm thinking "cross faders" if you can find one. Here's a run down:
http://www.horrorseek.com/home/hallo...rossFader.html
You can plug your orange lights into one and purple into the other and voila!"Look Honey, they have... uhm... 'Dead People' in the backyard!"
"Your body's dying. Pay no attention, it happens to all of us!"
