A buddy of mine is giving me an old 55 gallon drum for free so that i can use it for halloween props. I figure for my first pneumatic a simple pop up would be perfect. Only thing is i don't know what i would need to buy? What exactly is needed to make a simple pop up? How much would it cost me to build this? I planned to take a bucky torso and have that pop up out of the barrel. Should i just start with a kit or can i build this myself? I have such a huge list of things to do i doubt i'll even get to this but i'd like to try.

that really isn't what i want to do though. I want to use a whole bucky torso not just a head. Thank you though for the link Halloween2012.

Check out Devious Concoctions website, and click on the "Prop Shop" tab. There are several barrel lifters for sale there, or you can do like I did, and buy a welder, and some steel and build your own. I forgot to take pictures of the finished machine, but here are the frame pieces welded, and primed.

Maybe something like this?...you would need a 20 inch throw cylinder and a 3,4 or 5 way air valve (Depending on if you want to use both ports on the air cylinder) that would be enough throw to get the bucky torso out of the barrell. I'm using a 18 inch throw air cylinder.

You could do something like the previous post said and make or design something like DC and weld them as I did in my pictures of mine. It started with just and experiment and a project in my head, then I started and ended up with this. I have a lot of stuff running inside this one though. Everything is run from 2 Vari-PET III controllers.
