For the past couple of years I have been running 2 of the cheap 400w walmart foggers through fog chillers. They are ok. I want to step it up this year. I am looking at the either the American DJ Fog Storm 1200W or 1700W. My first question is, will one of these units put out more fog than the 2 400W combined? Second question, Is the the 1700W worth double the price of the 1200W. I will be buying from Amazon.com due to gift cards so my choices are limited to whatever they sell. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a 1200w that works great but when used with the chiller it produced the same volume but lasted longer in output. That was my personal experience with the American DJ foggers. I have 3 which are a 400w, 700w and an old 1200w. Cant go wrong with any of the American DJ foggers though! I have the 700w that I bought back in 1994 and still working today!

You can't really just compare the fog machines with the wattage. The ones you are looking at have 7000 and 15000 cubic feet per minute of fog output respectivly. I have a VEI 940 that also puts out 7000 but is only 1000 watts.

I would think 7000 would be plenty for a home haunt. I usually only have to run mine for about 5 to 10 seconds every minute or two. Plus if the unit with 15000 output is twice the price I would just buy two 7000's. That will let you set one up on each side of the haunt in case the wind shifts. I've had to drag mine from one side to the other on numerous occasions.

The only problem with buying the 1200W unit is that it doesn't come with the timer remote. That's another $25. I was thinking of buying two of them but with the remotes added in, it would have been $50 more than the 1700W. I can still run one of my cheap 400w along with which ever one I buy because I have 2 chillers. I was just wondering if there is anybody that has personally compared the two. I would gladly pay the extra $ for the 1700 if it were to outperform the 1200 by a large margin. But, not if it is only slightly better. I've always heard there is no standard in measuring fog output by cu ft so it's hard to compare one manufacturer to another when looking at those numbers. I may be wrong on this but that was why I was basing all of my info on the wattage.

Halloween2012, I was looking at the VEI but they don't sell it on Amazon so I don't want to go that route.

Ter ran, do you ever clean yours? I've also heard both sides of that argument. My current foggers never get cleaned and usually only last 1-2 years. I've always blamed it on the cheap foggers though.

I don't know what your budget is, but this is the machine I use and it's available on Amazon - Amazon.com: Chauvet F-1700 watt Hurricane series fogger: Musical Instruments

I pretty much fog up the whole neighborhood with it and use maybe a quart of Froggy's through a chiller. I've had it for 3 years with no problems

Interesting. The Chauvet F-1700 has a 1200W heater while the Chauvet 1300 has a 1300w heater and cost half as much. Both put out the same amount of fog, 20,000cfm. The 1700 has more remote options but I wouldn't need dmx or a wireless remote, just the automatic timer. Is the 1700 just a more heavy duty fogger?

I've wanted to buy a Chauvet for a while now. We've been beating on 4 or 5 "cheap" machines (Joann's, Wal-mart, Target, Kmart) 400 W machines and I think last year we were down to one!! I've heard that Chauvet is the best.....any other opinions/suggestions?

Use the search function to find the VERY long thread on the Chauvet Hurricane series of foggers, how the 1200 watt heater was 700-900 watts, the 1700 watt heater was 1200 watts, Chauvet's response (ignore, address, experiment, concede), and finally the recall/credit plan they implemented to shut us all up when the volume of complaints started to snowball. Repeated requests for them to explain how they calculated the fog volume went unanswered after my own testing revealed their figures to be seriously in question.

I, personally, would never buy another Chauvet product again. My next fogger will be an American DJ or a VEI.
