I was thinking of what kinds of shapes, epitaphs, and the "deceased" I want to feature on the tombstones... I have one idea: I was thinking I would do a stone for Edgar Allan Poe with his poem of "The Sleeper" in a kinda of scripted style on the gravestone. I was trying to get some inspiration from the article in last years Martha Stewart Living for October. I think it was called Everlasting Art, and it talked about old headstones from around the country, mainly in New England. I only have a few tombstones that I've bought from stores over the years.. and I want to make maybe 10-20 more..depending on time and money. Cause, I've gotta go to Home Depot tomorrow to get supplies....and start whipping 'em out this weekend....?![]()

I'm going to to Lizzy Borden with the poem on it. Then I think I am going to do another one like this

and I have already done two similar to this

One I did I messed up by holding the paint can too close, but it came out good in the end it looks like a skeleton hand on the bottom reaching up. Also I carved in the letters RIP and a skeleton Head, then I just held the paint can close(on purpose this time) and "traced" the lines I just carved and it ate away the styrofoam and looks great!

Happy Halloweenie, that is awesome! I've been looking at old graveyards in person and on the internet/magazines...slowly building an idea of what I want. I haven't even started buying, much less building tombstones or props! I gotta get on the ball! :P I've heard a bunch about how you shouldn't use the spray paint on the foam, but I don't see any reason why not! Lol about the boot hill thing
Madame Leota, I've searched a lot for tombstones on here! Maybe I should just look around on flickr or google? I just need to find my own inspiration!
Thanks you guys!I maybe crazy, but at least my life is fun!

Here are some sites that might help you out some. this one has info on the different symbols you see carved on tombstones: http://www.looktothepast.com/headstonecarvings.html
This one will help with the dates and burial info for famous people: http://www.findagrave.com/index.html
If you want to search for pics from very old graveyards, it can be helpful to use the term 'burial ground', as that is what they were often called. If you search google images you'll get some pretty good pictures.
Good luck with your project - it can be addictive!

Look up Terra's tombstones on this website. She does awsome work

We have, in the past, etched the names of famous character actors associated with the Horror genre. You know, Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff and so on.
