Okay, so this year I really want to board my windows up to really add that little extra something. I know how to make the boards and paint them and everything, but the attaching process has me alittle confused. I keep reading that people use velcro, but how do you attach it to the house? So here are my questions-

Could someone please show me a picture of the velcro on the house. Is it like a sticker with velcro on the other side or something?

Also, how does the foam board hold up in the rain, and how windy can it get before the boards come off? It isn't to bad here during October, but we do get the occasional thunderstorm.

id say use small tacking nails or small thin screws and you can use foam boards or wood then you can either let it ride as you staple xmas lights up and repaint in the spring like i do or you can repaint and patch right after halloween with ease.
I cast a spell on you, and now your mine

The only problem with that is that I can't do any damage to the house. I'm only 17 and I don't think my parents would be to fond of me putting holes in the siding. Thanks though

Could you build it with a frame? My husband made ours out of wood and set the whole thing in the window's ledge. There were never any marks because it just sat there in 2 large sections (one for each window).

You can get Velcro with an adhesive backing on it. They even have a heavy duty one that is good for outdoor use. I think I got my last pack at Home Depot.

The boards are for the second floor windows, which don't have a ledge. Thanks though. And I really like your display.

I use the velcro for mine since I have brick around my windows. It's heavy duty with adhesive on the back. I'd leave it velcroed together and stick big strips to the ends of the board on the back and then stick them on the wall, that way you don't have to try and match up the velcro.

We had a storm last year and all but one came down but once everything dried I put them back up and they worked fine. It was the velcro that let go of the brick in the storm, probably hold on better to wood but be careful removing it so you don't pull off paint.

I attached a pic so you can see my boards stuck on the brick wall.

I made my boarded up windows out of pink foam because I didn't want them to be too heavy. I used small round velcro dots (abt 1/2" wide) at each corner of the window. I used white because my window frames are white and I leave the dots up all year round. You can't see them from a few feet away. I live on the south shore of Long Island and so it can get pretty windy during the autumn, and I have yet to have a problem with the boards becoming unattached. I have used the same velcro dots for 3 years now.

I also used pink foam that I painted. and glued together. I have shutters on my house. I took some of those tiny brass screws with the eye hook head and screwed them into the sides of the shutters. Then I just thread baling wire through the "eyes" and around one of the "boards". It works just fine and I can leave the hooks in place all year. Of course that wont help you unless you have shutters.

if need be a frame will work, i live in a house when i was younger and had to build frames to put up xmas lights. is there vinyl siding on your house? if so you can shim a piece of wood inbetween the siding then screw it in to that and it wont do any damage to you parents home.
