Since my budget is very low this year and some of the props I am working on are going to need heads, I decided to make my own instead of buying some. I bought a styrofoam head from Michaels for about $10 and a large bag of celluclay for about $24. I figured I could make several heads at a cheaper cost than buying them.
I took the styrofoam head, smeared it with whatever was handy that would not eat the foam and applied the celluclay over it and it turned out like this..
Let it dry and then used my dremel to cut around it so I could pull it off. Well Son of a Brick. The clay wouldnt come off. What do I do now? After pondering about it I wrapped the head now with the celluclay on it in aluminum foil. and applied another layer of clay and let it dry.
This time after I used the dremel it popped off no problem.
I remembered a thread on how to make eyes with ping pong balls, made a pair, dremeled out the eye holes and popped them in. I used more clay to put the halves back together again and am now waiting for it to dry.
I am going to put a PVC section in it, fill the void with Great Stuff and then finish it up.
Gonna start on my next one and try to do other expressions. With the clay I have left I think I can get another 3 or 4 heads out of it, total of about 5 or 6 depending. Not too bad for $34 bucks I think.

Figures that I have been all cranked up to get these heads done and all this week...I have been getting called out constantly...I have barely had time to do the things I need to do like laundry. I was geared up to come home from work yesterday and start working but I got called out again and didnt get home for another 15 hours. So I basically put in a 23 hour work day. Gonna try to get some sleep, get up, hopefully not get called out again and start knocking (out) heads.
