This is irritating the #@%! out of me. I downloaded Audacity so I can create voices for my props and a soundtrack for my haunt. I got everything done just the way I wanted it, and when I went to export the tracks I made, I got an error message (story of my life this year) saying "Audacity cannot directly export files" or something to that effect. It told be I had to download another program to convert the Audacity file to an mp3 file. Cool. Downloaded the program it told me to. Now, the program I downloaded says that it can't convert the audio tracks I made because it doesn't recognize/support the format they were recorded in. AAAARRRGGG!!!! I don't get it because:
1. The original tracks I altered on Audacity were mp3 tracks to begin with
2. Audacity apparently converts them to their own format, which I get, but WHY THE HELL DOESN'T THE FRIGGIN' PROGRAM THEY TOLD ME TO DOWNLOAD TO "FIX" THE PROBLEM.......FIX THE PROBLEM!
I have to get these tracks onto CD's to test my props and I'm running behind. PLEASE help me out here. All I'm trying to do is convert the Audacity files to an mp3 format and burn them to a CD. Nothing complex. I hope one of you can direct me in the right path before I go insane. Thanks

I have never used this software but I will be sure to steer clear from it after hearing your issues. I wouldnt like the non conversion ability either!

Did you download the LAME mp3 encoder? What format did you record it in? If exporting it to wav doesn't work, then something IS wrong. You shouldn't be having any problems. If all else fails, save the project file. FILE: Save Project As...
Then unistall, and reinstall Audacity. Which version are you using? If that doesn't work, you can PM or email me the project files and I'll convert them for you.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help, I'd be pulling my hair out if I had any. Yes, I did download the LAME decoder. I'll try the other suggestions you all gave me and if it doesn't work, I'll e-mail the files to those of you who offered (graciously) to decode them for me.

I think it's more intuitive to people who have used other audio editing software not based on windows. Virgil Franklin has been putting up lessons on how to use audacity here:

Audacity is a very useful program that can do just about anything; if you know what your doing. The open source program is always improving and the learning curve is relatively easy. I would be more than happy to help anyone out...if you should have any probs with Audacity.
