    Repairing foam rubber, HELP

    I'm trying to repair a monster costume. The arms and chest are a soft rubber that has ripped and rotted. There are tears between the fingers and chunks missing from the arms. This is one of those giant monster costumes that stands about 8' tall. The head is solid dense foam with some dents and chips. I'm going to take the wig off it, fill the dents with spackle, and lay down a coat of primer, then repaint the whole head. I need some ideas on how to repair the body. The Great Stuff foam would probably dry too hard. The hole in the chest the actor looks out can recovered with material. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    I don't really know enough about what you are trying to fix. I myself have just barely started dabbling with creating plastics, silicone, rubber and latex. My source has been Smooth On. http://www.smooth-on.com/
    I bought my latex from the people at Monster Club. http://www.monsterclub.com/ They were helpful to talk to. Hope that gets you pointed in the right direction.

    Yea Show a pic. You might be able to use the holes and tears as part of the costume. A friend of mine opened the holes more by burning the material and made a cast with bone and flesh showing then painted it sewed it over the holes. or in your case maybe glued.

    What is the base material? It looks like foam rubber in the center of the arms ?

    It does feel like foam rubber. I think the skin is probably latex. I'm thinking about peeling the skin off, recovering the arms with new foam and gluing the old skin back on. The hands, I'll probably just glue a new pair over. The chest I'm thinking of just brushing liquid latex over the damages.

    Liquid Latex has always worked for most of my latex/rubber repairs. I am working on some right now. I bought a gallon on ebay a little back and have enough to repair my 2 devil dogs(see my photo albums). The best of luck on your repairs!
