Actually this is more of a "I pick yours brains" post, but you creative people might like the idea.
I'm wondering about a prop based on the old poem, The little man who wasn't there;
Last night I saw apon the stair
a little man that wasn't there
he wasn't there again today
oh how I wish he'd go away
and then when I came home at three
the little man was waiting for me
but when I looked around the hall
I couldn't see him there at all
So a little man who can be easily seen on approaching, but disappears as you come up along side him.
What say you builders of the macabre?

Peppers ghost, maybe? Slowly bring the lights up as you get closer to the glass, & the reflection will be washed out by the ambient light.

That's good, but I'm thinking dark and creepy. Something I could fit on my porch and leave out all year just to aggravate the neighbors.
They don't do Halloween around here and think I have an actual graveyard out front. You know, I've always wanted a child. And now I think I'll have one,...on toast!

This would be my take on it....I like gore so I will go with that
Four props/men made similar to each other but a little different like...
One with his arms out hands open
one with his arms out hands open and a large knife in his hand
one with his arms out hands open and a large knife in one hand with blood all over it
one with his arms out and a large knife in one hand with blood all over it and a head in the other hand
Place the first one right as you come into the room on the left side
place the second one on the right side wall about middle ways down
place the third one on the left side wall mounted at the top of the wall and to the ceiling looking down on you
place the fourth one against the wall in front of you opposite from the door you enter . At the feet of this prop I would have a pan with water/blood and a pump (windshield wiper pump) in it and a line running up the props leg , through his arm and out the bottom of the head with blood dripping from the freshly cut head.
The first three would be connected to fading lights....one fades in the other fades out....one fades in the other fades out. Quick fading lights like the prop is moving all around the room.
As you walk through the room (no lights except the fading lights and they are small and pointed at each prop. Right before you get to the last prop standing right in front of you a strobe pops on this prop holding the bleeding cut off head.
Total Cost to build.....no more than $50.00
Chicken wire bodies $3 each
4 sand cast heads $2 each
Pump couple dollars (junk yard)
Wall Wart .50 thrift store
1/4 hose $3 Lowes
Hats $1 each thrift store
clothes $2 each prop yard sell (needs to be similar on each prop)
Spray paint....$1 can.....3 cans walmart
Motion detector walmart last time I bought one it was $11
Set of Christmas lights that fades, chase .....$1 thrift store/yard sale
