After I finished my columns I placed sheet moss around it. Being a 'swamp moss' kinda girl (part of being a Southerner) I'd never worked with this type of moss. When some of it died, I had to find a way to bring it back to life. While patiently (not) waiting for my hubby to get home so we can go to the beach, I decided to paint the moss a well, uh, mossy color.
Had never seen this problem addressed. Am I the only moss killer on this forum?
But this is what the result is. Hope it helps someone.![]()

For you it's moss... I only kill Teddy Bears... your worse.
What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.

Hey whatever works...lol! One year my brother brought me a garbage bag full from Florida...bugs and all...yuk! My cemetery looked awesome that year but I noticed the moss would dry out and seem to die and then it would rain and perk right back up. I stored it in a garbage bag and the next year it smelled like a horse stable so I had to toss it.

I've picked tons of moss and lichen around here only to have it dry out and turn brown..which is fine if want a really dead look. Walmart sells small bags of it that does stay green though..I'm not sure if they preserve it a diff way or what..but I figure it's prob dyed green instead.
They also sell large bags of spanish moss that looks great hanging out of trees..

Yep, same thing happens to me. I think it's dyed green. So, all of my moss is now brown and I've been okay with that. But I do like the idea of painting it.
It does come back to life when it rains (neat) but that green doesn't come back to life with it.

You picked the perfect color, it looks great! It's dead, it's no fuss and still looks good, what could be better? lol

You killed it! You must have a black thumb, Cathy (like me).
Why don't you try using canned spinach instead??

I had to go out in the garage and check on the sticks that have some kind of moss and hairy looking stuff on them that my husband brought home from one of his gold mining trips. (I would have rather had a 14 pound gold nugget! LOL.) It started out really bright green and it's loosing its color, too. I don't think we have swamp moss, but whatever it is, it will have to be painted. Thanks Cathy for the idea.
