Hey everyone. I wanted to add a cheap lightning effect to a bathroom. The idea was to pick up one of those light organs, the ones with the lightning bolt or tree on them, and connect a strand of white christmas lights to them.
For anyone that has one of these how do they work exactly? Do you just put it near an amplifier? Or do you actually have to plug anything other than a light strand into them?
I was thinking of putting the strand of lights behind the blinds in my bathroom. Would I get enough light from this to make it a least somewhat convincing?

I have two of these boxes and for basic lightning effects, they can't be beat. The box has a built-in mic so you can place it near a speaker and it will react to the sounds. It also has a RCA jack in the back of the box so you can plug in a CD or MP3 player to supply the soundtrack. If you do it this way, split the signal so that one side goes to the lightning box input and the other to your amplifier.
If you want to make the illusion that there's a lightning storm going on outside, I suggest placing the speakers and lights outside of the window, if possible. Use a couple of 100W floodlights or a 250W photoflood bulb (available at photography stores) aimed at the window so the flashes look like nearby lightning strikes.
I wish you luck in finding one of those boxes - every site I've looked at recently says they're out of stock, but you may be able to find one on ebay.I...have many names...
