I am desperate to start learning about pneumatics. I have no experience and i want to buy a kit to start and then after i learn more i would love to assemble my own. As of right now i am looking for a kit that would lift my bucky torso out of a 55 gal barrel. I would especially love it if it was able to launch it out of a water filled barrel.
any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Prop 1 controler to control it of course. And the underwater part is a bit hard from what I hear.

I think ... Fright props has a lot of stuff too. (hope I got that right)
I use a pico boo timer/controller on my pneumatics. EASY!

you might want to consider a stainless steel cylinder if you are going to be using it underwater. Frightprops has them.

Yep, I'm a Fright Props fan too (they have great kits). I also hear awesome things about Monster Guts.
At times, it may be difficult to get Fright Props to answer their phone or emails. But, the times I did get a hold of them (Doug) .... very helpful!

are pneumatics hard to work with? What size air compressors do you guys use?

The pneumatics are the easiest part to work with. It's the controlling part that is tricky.
Well, that and the learning curve (quick though) of pneumatic connectors.
I use a Craftsman 17gal oiless. It handled my 5 pneumatics last year fine. Here's a helpful thread talking about compressors: Compressor help needed. Calling all multiple prop haunters.

My biggest issue with pneumatics has been.... speed control.
My props would pop up just fine but to get them to go down without tearing up my prop.... that was a whole other ball game. I have now been introduced to flow control valves and check valves.... trying to put those to use now... we'll see how that goes.
