This project doesn't make much sense in general without the history behind it.
There's numberous stone formations around Utah, most commonly known as the witches.
I'm not entirely sure why they are known as witches, and sometimes demons or devils. Ones that actually have a shape might have other names, but random stone formations...I often wondered why this was. But, they are found throughout Utah, and range in size from large pillars shown above, to smaller, man-sized ones.
Well, in searching Spider Woman, I came on another legend for these rocks.
To make a very long tale short:
One day, the evil creatures of the nether regions, tired of living in the dark and dank, decided to dig up to the surface and take over everything above and below the earth. They dug and the ground trembled and rumbled. The people knew they needed otherworldly assistance, and sent a medicine man to visit Spider Woman. After managing to pass her tests, she agreed to assist. When the medicine man confronted the demons, Spider Woman let out her web and held them in place while the shaman called the ice and snow of the winter and froze them solid. When the Spring came, the ice was replaced by earth and stone, and the demons and witches stand struggling today just as they were.
I had long been considering making my own rock formations, and had ideas on how, but it was considered a lesser priority. Then, watching South Pacific the other day, there was a particular scene with pillars in the background with masks on them. Something clicked, and I got this idea to put faces on the rock formations. So, here we lie.
The base on #1 not 100% dry, so was strapped to the car...
#2.
#1.
I'll be dry brushing on top of this base for detail, but haven't fully determined whether to do so with flourescing paint or not.

Great Job! I love the story of "The Witches" rock formations.
I love the way it looks, with the red peering through the eyes/mouth. Maybe, add some actual stones/rocks to the base! I think it would just add to it.

Life is too short to not do what makes us happy, keeps us sane, or both.

They are simply monster mud and burlap.
My form was simply one of those sticks of bamboo you can see in the background on a stand. The first one had a wig head on top, but the weight of the monster mud busted it, so the second one just had a big wad of plastic for the head.
