I'm taking the PVC pipe dummy out of the electric chair prop this year and making it where the TOTs can actually sit in it and get "fried" and I need some ideas for the surroundings of the electric chair prop.
I'm thinking I'll probably just use part of my garage and make it the "execution chamber". Anybody have any ideas that would make for good atmosphere? Gross/scary stuff hanging on the wall, smaller prop ideas that could be used in conjuction with the E-chair prop (which is pretty big by the way, check out my albums to see it), anything like that would be great. Also pcitures if anybody has done anything like this for their haunts.
Thanks.

Download some sound effects, you can find power line sounds that have the electricty running through them, and some flickering lights

How about a dancing "live" cable on the floor? Use heavy rubber gloves to "insulate" yourself from the high current? Scorch marks. Some sort of scent? Definately the sound and flickering lights. A steaming victim? Blind fold? (could ruin the effect if they can't see it though) Gurney, body bag? Fire extinguisher? Priest giving last rites? Tell the TOT when they are to be executed, have a clock on the wall and flip the switch at the appointed time? My dream would be to have the TOT experience something that fools them but is ultimately harmless. Blast of air, static electricity, brief drop? Story about how the chair is real, and how it was used, it is in the exact same condition as when it was last used, except it is [I]supposed[I] to be disconnected, you would feel wood buzzing if it were powered, (make chair buzz) Oh, you are feeling buzzing?... flip the switch and start the prop. Have a skeleton drop from the ceiling while they are strapped in? Just some ideas.

For a smaller prop, maybe a pile of smoking bones. Using a fog machine under the pile of bones for the smoke.

Maybe a subtle touch. Every once in a while, lay ashes on the arm rests, set & floor where the feet would of been. Let them walk up & see then excuse your self & use a umpire broom & dust it off. You could put small holes under where the ashes are to give a smoldering effect.
( tube from fogger)?

Those are all great ideas.... keep them coming please. I'm going to try to keep bumping this thread up if I have to as we get closer to Halloween.
I'm thinking of some heavy metal music in the chamber might be a pretty cool effect or maybe just having the Halloween movie theme going. I know those pciks might not really match up with an "execution chamber" theme but it will add to the "madness" of the situation I think.
I really like the clock idea and the body bag idea.... pretty simple and should be easy to do.

Ask the TOTs how tall they are. Let them know what size body bag they will require after sitting in the chair. "Oh, you're 5'4"; I ought to be able to slip you into a medium body bag after the chair is done with you." Super cheap and easy, lines! LOL

I did something Like you're talking about a few years ago and I mostly used things that didn't cost very much. I will see if I can find pictures from 2006. Till then I will explain what I did.
I had a 20 foot long hall made to look like a miner tunnel. I used wood pallets for the floor and I used metal conduit for the hand rail that ran the length of the hall. I had some metal studs someone gave me so I used them along the wall. I had some electric wire hanging out the opening in some of the metal studs. I put flicker lights (one white one blue) Christmas bulbs in the stud and it looked like the wire shorting out. I also had a flicker light in a hanging light socket. At the end of the hall/tunnel I had my electric chair.
When you first walk in the tunnel a warning comes on telling to to be careful 10 thousands volts is running through the wires and rails. Of course everyone will touch the hand rails to see. Well when you touched them it felt like electricity running through them (I will explain later how to do this) not real strong at first but stronger as you walk down the tunnel. Also after you get about 1/4 the way down the tunnel another warning comes on and now you start feeling the vibration/electricity in your feet. When you get about a yard away from the electric chair the prop activates and a strong vibration/electricity comes up through you.
Getting the vibration is really simple and it's surprising how much the little motors I use was able to vibrate. I use the vibrating motors that comes in messaging back rest that you put behind you while you're in the car. Thrift stores keep these and you can usually pick them up for a couple dollars and most will have 4 to six DC vibrating motors in them. They will run on Wall warts. I mounted one to the support pole on my hand rail (halfway down) and one under the pallet 1/4 way down , another 1/2 way and 2 at the end. They really do give you the feel of electricity going through you. Not only that, they buzz so that adds to the effect.
That was just about the only prop/set up I used year after year. I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for but anything with the feel of electricity going through you would set up the end prop.
(edit
I found a picture of the test I did on the hand rail and the wiper motor electric chair prop....on the finish prop i only used 1 motor (1 on each side) on the rail

Very cool ideas here! We're doing an executioner theme this year too! Electric chair, iron maiden, chopping block, torso on a spit. I've read something a while ago about somehow attaching a hand sander to the bottom of the seat of the electric chair for the vibration to simulate the sound and feel of an elctrical current? Has anyone heard of this? If I can find it again I might try that.
