I have been trying to obtain a red latex chest for a demon character. I have had no luck so far. I am considering purchasing this chest but would need to paint it to match the rest of my prop.
Can a pre-painted latex item be painted and if so what type of paint and process should be used?

Thanks for any advise you can provide...

When storage is a concearn, put your monster props under the kids beds.

if you don't glob it on, acrylic paints (in the bottles at Michaels-- the cheap kind) will adhere to latex, provided it isn't subject to a lot of flexing. You can also use rubber cement paint (thinned rubber cement with oil paint--google it), but that is toxic, so take care. That's all I can say from experience, but there are plenty of other options

This is a chest I found at Goodwill last year for $. 99, actually found 2 of them. I made this pirate with one and did a bit of touch up painting with acrylics. Sorry his beard\hair is the way of the sternum, it is a good likeness.

I would use Latex paint, myself. Latex will always bond with latex. : )

Like others have said acrylic/laytex artist paint but I would suggest mixing it 1/4 to 3/4's of liquid latex to keep a little flex to it. Layer a few coats until you get the richness in color your looking for.

you should try to make one I seen a corpse the other day made outta coat hangers bent like a rib and wrapped in news paper and duct tape then they stretched panty hose over the hangers liquid laytexed it and painted it I think they used a 1x2 for the spine It looked easy and they did the whole corpse for 50 bucks I saw it here or on haunt forum very cool though good luck!!!

Thanks for the help everyone. I figured it would be too easy to just add latex paint on top.
Yubney....I haven't used liquid latex what is the consistancy most similar too? When storage is a concearn, put your monster props under the kids beds.

Liquid latex comes in many varieties, but the consistency is much like latex-based paint (house paint), perhaps a little thicker

It varies... grab a jar of the mold builders type it's pretty thick. Take your paint in a jar and dilute and mix it with a bit of water. Mix your mold latex and blend to thin it with the water/paint you just mixed. The thing with latex is it's the same thin or thick and dries the same in the end. Just with the thick stuff you can glop it on but your going for a thin application for pigment so think watery for what your trying but not "pure drinking water" consistancy.
