For those that dont know me I am a Crime Scene Investigator so needless to say I see alot of gory stuff. However, recently I was involved in a case where we had recieved a tip on where a homicide victim was buried. We did the dig and located the body. Its been in the ground 9 years so it was pretty much just skeletal and was wrapped up. I went to the autopsy the other day and as we were taking the wrappings off, the skull came into view and all I could help thinking was, this would be a great prop. The skull was covered in dirt and had a fine web of roots all over it. There was a couple of other things that I cant go into due to the investigation but it looked great.
So, need opinions on this. If I base my prop to replicate the actual skull would it be considered insensitive. None of the family live in my town they live over a 100 miles away so they wouldnt see it and probably wouldnt make the connection if they did.
And yes I have tons of pics but no I cant post them. Sorry![]()

Definitely not, I am sure you will make it look even better and the connection would most likely never be made.

uh- oh... I see you found where I stashed one of my victims.

Seriously, tho, I LOVE your idea! And since you can't show pics of the real thing, please post a pic when you get the replica finished!!!

Yeah Cathy...were you in the area of Aiken 9 years ago?
Actually we know who did it so you are off the hook.
And no it wont be gory...its basically just a skull with dirt and roots, but it looked so cool and there were two other things about it that I just cant mention because they are distinct to the investigation.
And I do wish I could post pics

It was a really fine web of roots. I'm thinking of something like cheesecloth but heavier and dyed dark brown. Of course you would have to seriously distress the cheesecloth to get the look but that is the closest thing I can think to use.

I don't see an issue with using the real skull as a model for the one you are making. In fact, it's kind of paying homage to the victim, in a way.
