So of course, you never have anything when you need it, but have tons of it when you dont. As is the case with newspaper for me. Im starting Paper Mache projects, and Im completely out of newspaper. Im sure most of you just use what you have around the house, but what if you need more? Do any of you have any ideas of where I can score a bunch of newspaper(for free of course ) ?

Run a ad on Craigslist for free newspaper. If you lucky you will get a reply from your local newspaper carrier. Also is there a US Today office near you? If so call them, there delivery people always have a ton of papers to get rid of.

    Hope this helps!

I use a lot of paper mache. I get sale papers from the supermarket when they are ready to put out the next weeks replacement ad papers.

There are also free papers around, just keep an eye open for them.

    I like free.....free is good!

I use either telephone books or painters paper.
Telephone books has close to the same weight and texture as newspaper. They rip easily in strips and are easy to store. They last a long time but if I run out they have them for free at grocery stores.
Painters paper is my favorite. It's about $2 for a roll of 200 feet, so it's not free but 200 feet lasts for a long time. It takes glue well and is a bit stronger than newspaper. It's a solid color so I can get a better idea of what the finished product will be as I'm building. All the text and colors on the newspaper or phone book kinda messes with my eyes.

I just started to paper mache this year and I’m really lucky because my husband works for a large newspaper company and I have a never ending supply of printed paper and the end of the rolls they can’t print on. Unfortunately that won’t help most of the people on here though, because I’m in Australia.

We have a free classified newspaper that comes out every Friday. When I run low, I pick up bundles of the old ones on Thursday afternoons from the entrance of any grocery store in town.

You could check those realestate kiosks that are always up in front of convenience stores and super markets..Sometimes there are auto-trader or similar car buying papers. Both are always free. Just take a stack.

Put two quarters in a paper machine and take ALL the papers in there. No, don't do that. JK
I've always used paper towels myself.

Check the local gas stations EARLY in the morning for loft over yesterday's paper. (assuming you have morning papers in your area)

You can also check with your local paper to see if they have misprints, or such that they're tossing.
