I am thinking about building a mausoleum or something like that with pink board. The question I have is how to make it easy for assembly and dis-assembly? Do you connect the pink board to wood frames and then attach the frames? I'm sure someone has shown how to do this, but not able to find in the vast library of this site. The size available here is 2' x 8' which would be a lot of assembly, but would be great for storage as all my storage is in the attic. If someone has pics, that would be great. Thanx.

You have it exactly right, i have used this stuff for years for tombstones etc. and to make any structure that will withstand the elements (wind etc) you need a sub-structure as the pink styrofoam will not hold screws and most other hardware. You need to construct a wooden frame (1x2's or thicker) and then attach the pink foam to that with anything ranging from gorilla glue to drywall screws with washers. Once the panels are done, you can screw them all together or to another structure, and they should hold nicely. I hope this helps but feel free to message me if you need anything further......'Scruff

Like Scruff, most of us here use the stuff for all kinds of projects. With the exception of tombstones, you will want to frame the mausoleum first them look to attach the pink foam on it. I made a crypt last year using this type of technique. You can check it out here. Hope this helps. Also, here is a link to my album where I also put some of the pics.

If at first you don't suceed.... drink another beer!

Great references! Just so I'm clear, this "pink board" is available at home improvement stores like Home Depot, right? Or is it some other Styrofoam board you'd get at a craft store?

Yep its insulation board from Lowes, Home Depot ir Menards. Most lumber yards would have it also.
We have it available here in 4x8' sheets in varying thicknesses.
We've used it to build a huge variety of things. I glue it together and then carve it to make props.. such as, an alligator, an anchor for our pirate ship, a boiler room door that I attached hardware to ... Its great stuff !

If I build it, will they come ?

This stuff is amazing I actually built the home I am living in out of it, seriously.

I believe I am going to incorporate it into my haunt this year as well. By the way if you believe that first sentence I have some swamp land in Arizona to sell you.

I pretty much did like the others and used a wood frame then glued/nailed the foam board to it. I used 2x2's and some of those strong tie connectors to keep the corners square and strong. If you try and nail them together and only use one nail per joint they will twist on you.

Remember to remove the thin plastic covering before you attach the panel to the frame (see pic) or the glue and paint will not stick.

I used 1/2 thick foam board but if I had to do it over I would use 3/4" (oh the blue is the same as the pink just a different manufacturer)

Here are some random pics of my crypt in the construction process feel free to browse the album. http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/g...bstones/crypt/

Best of luck and post some pics when your done!
