How can I make something similar to a pop-up ghost, without the use of pneunomatics?

I really want to do a pop-up ghost like those in the HM, but Pneunomatics are really hard to use (for me) and so are compressed air and other devices, which are hard to obtain for me. Anyways, I can build the prop, but I need the mechanism that would imitate that of the Haunted Mansion (HM) . i thought of things like springs, or the mechanism that the trashcans that open the lid when you press a button use, etc. Give me your ideas, I won't accept a "No, this can only be achieved with compressed air and pneunomatics."
Where Hinges creek in doorless chambers... And where strange and Frightening sounds Echo...through the halls... Whenever candlelights flicker... where the air is DEATHLY STILL... that is the time when GHOSTS are present... Practicing their terror, with GOULISH DELIGHT...

Although it wouldn't be extremely fast, you could use a wiper motor to lift a 4-bar linkage. Some wiper motors have a setting that makes it turn around exactly one revolution. You could do something like this with the motor attached to the bottom linkage:

I used a wiper motor with a custom controller to do this:

The linkage is a bit tricky on this prop due to the low height of the 'stone - I didn't have much room to hide things. A taller 'stone would have a simpler, even a vertical, linkage.
    I...have many names...

to the OP'er air props aren't that bad there are many how-to's and very low budget scares for the beginner and many of use will help answer questions if you get stuck or have an issue.

Good luck with whichever one you do.

How are people powering the wiper motors? Can you do that on AC?
