I purchased an American DJ DP-DMX-20L 4 channel DMX dimmer pack at the goodwill for $20.00. In wanting to know if this is too good to be true, it needs to be tested. I see that there is a chase sequence mode that I'm going to try. I have no other DMX equipment. Any ideas for additional tIests?

Great Score!
It doesn't have the ability to generate DMX signals on it's own but you can test the chase sequence:
Grab four plug-in lights and plug one into each channel. Follow the instructions for chase sequence in the manual and see if it works: http://www.americanmusical.com/ItemF...20l_manual.pdf
If it doesn't work, check to make sure the fuses are okay.
To test the DMX ability, you will have to get a DMX controller and a DMX cable. Here's the cheapest one I found: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com...ler?sku=801597 But this isn't very helpful in a haunt situation...
So, if you spent a little more money and get the VSA program ($60) and two DMX cables and an Enttec Open box ($60) then you could program and transmit DMX signals from your computer. Warning though, this would just be the beginning... Muh ha ha haaaa....Last edited by Terra; 05-17-2010 at 03:19 AM.

1/2 way there, I've got VSA already. Will be testing the chase mode later today. Thanks!

So are you going to get the Enttec box? If so, I was thinking that you only need one DMX cable. But you will also need a 5 pin to 3 pin DMX adapter. Optional for such a small chain but good to have....a DMX terminator.
Warning. Another member here got the same set-up and there was a bad Enttec driver with the Enttec box. If you have anything wonky going on, come here first and we can help direct you to the solution. I'm personally hoping Enttec is already fixing the problem.

Was able to test in sequence mode and everything worked fine so the next step would be the enttec box and cables. I also have to work on what it is that I'm going to do with this new find. Thanks for the offer of help, I'm sure I'll need it a some point
