Congratulations, if you are reading Halloween Forum posts in May, you are an offficial hardcore haunter. Now, on to the post...
Last year, we only had a two foot high barrier. This year's accouterments are shaping up. Here's a look at the stanchions in place as well as a topper. They still need to be detailed but you get the idea. If anyone remembers my puck light tutorial, the puck light will shine down the inside of the pole onto the chain.
Looks like a scene from Hell Raiser. Painting the 2" plastic chains.
Robert from GoE gave me the idea of putting coffee grounds in the paint for texture. It really diminishes the plastic look.
As a bonus, here is my rendering of the new gates:
And, as an overlay on the driveway:
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I love your stanchions! Great topper, and the puck lights will definitely add a lot! And the gate is awesome! What are you making the gate out of?
AND, I am very jealous of your beautiful lawn!

May I ask for the link to the 'puck lights'? Not sure what you are talking about here and like to see them.
thanks!

This I can't wait to see. Looks fantastic so far and thanks for telling about the coffee grounds in the paint. It does look like iron now.

Edit: Btw, good idea for the chains... I think I'll do that myself as well.

Knowing what you can do with foam, I'm very much looking forward to seeing your gates completed..........
I'm all that's left of a bizarre childhood.......

Dollar Store LED Prop Light for $1.80
After we put up the stanchions, it looked like a theme park queue line. I am excited to put the finishing touches on this project.
theedwin,
The gates are based on the Phantom Manor gates. I liked the tapered top - as opposed to the square pillar. My only hold up is storage although I think I've got some space opening up at the winery because he built a new cold room. The only other snag (and it's a big one) is the fact that California Home Depots have stopped carrying pink foam. White foam might be a bit tricky on the details."The name is Ash....housewares."

If you run out of pink foam, I can stick a few stamps on an 8' X 4' piece and mail you one, like a giant postcard.
Shouldn't cost much, since they weigh almost zilch!
