I've been thinking about adding some glowing jars for a scientist lab to my halloween inventory and instead of going the route of liquid filled jars with laundry detergent and such came across this idea based on the sun jars you've seen around. Here's links to two tutorials that I think are extremely helpful in creating the glowing jars. I will probably follow Micah's use of materials as it seems the quickest to assemble.

I'll probably use a colored cellophane film on the inside of the frosted jar to add color. I suppose the white LED could be switched out to a colored one also if the power requirements match.

Thanks for this. I like the effects that the lights and jars give off. This seems to be an easy tutorial to follow.

    Nice work.

Those looked so awesome I just had to try it! Using the tutorial from lifehacker I went and procured my supplies and made five jars in about an hour. I didn't find glass jars I really liked, but I snagged these up from Michaels. Once decorated with labels and some twine they will make some really nifty jars! To achieve the different colors, I raided the fridge and looked for any kind of labels that were colored and semi transparent! I ended up using a label from a bag of cheese, a label from a Gatorade bottle, and some labels from a bag of top ramen.

I hot glued the led assembly to the lid of the jar instead of using packing tape as the tutorial did, but other than that I followed the tutorial verbatim! Thanks for the link and inspiration!

I was just playing around with color options, but I will probably end up trying to make a more amber hue and labeling the jar with some sort of indication that sunlight is trapped within to stick to my vampire theme..
